How to find inspiration when you have writers block

I always knew that I wanted to have a creative outlet. I think everyone should have one. Whether you make money with it or not, it’s important to have something totally your own that is an expression of yourself. The hardest part is starting. I always knew that I had a knack for finding useful articles, videos or real life examples that provide valuable insights to others and that’s what I wanted to focus on. But my biggest fear was: “What if I run out of things to talk about?” I was afraid I would hit a wall and that prevented me from starting for a long time. Then I realized that there is so much content that I absorb every single day that I don’t even realize. My process of reading, watching and having conversations with all kinds of people has become so natural to me that I don’t even think about it, but it’s actually really applicable to the type of content I want to provide on this site.

So, whenever I’m feeling like “What the hell should I write about?” – I take a second to take a step back and think about my routine; what I read, what I watch, and conversations – and try to look at it from a third party’s view. Think about how the reader can either learn something new or think about the topic from a different perspective.

With that said, here’s my writer’s block guide:

  • What have I done?
    • Think small first: videos you watched, articles (even tweets) you read, conversations you had, meals you made, procrastinating you’ve done, etc.
  • Have a “So what?”
    • At the end of your writing, the reader should walk away having one take key take away to either educate them on something they didn’t know before, or provide a different way to think about something they experience on a normal basis.
