“Ultimately, there’s one investment that supersedes all others: Invest in yourself,”…“Nobody can take away what you’ve got in yourself, and everybody has potential they haven’t used yet.” – Warren Buffett
I always thought it was possibly the cheesiest phrase ever, but I kept hearing it over and over. The quote from Warren Buffett is just one from many wealthy and successful people that say investing in yourself is the best investment you can ever make. I never really understood that. I always felt that I would rather invest in so many other things before myself (Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, just to name a few). But then I thought about it more and more and maybe “investment” is the wrong term being used here. Maybe, “return on investment” is actually the better phrase.
Think about it this way. It takes very little startup cost to create an online store, a blog (like this one!), a YouTube channel, but all of these things have potential to create some extra cash. All it takes is a little bit of time and effort. If you started with $100 to create any of these ventures and then made $1000, that’s a 900% ROI (plus the skills that you learned along the way). That type of return, even in 5 years, is hard to find. Maybe near impossible. So maybe just on that point, betting on yourself is actually the best return on investment out there. It’s still important to remember that once you are able to create into real cash, you have to reinvest into assets that will continue to generate returns.
